Essay #2: Women in Aeschylus’ Oresteia
5 pages (use MLA format)
Due: April 20, Tuesday (at start of class)

Choose 2 of the plays from the Oresteia. Identify and describe the female characters in each play. Then, drawing on our study of ancient Greek women’s actual lives via primary sources, explain how the representation of women in the Oresteia validates, distorts, idealizes, etc., what it was like to be a woman in ancient Greece.

– you should refer to at least three primary sources from either of our two textbooks.

– you will need to quote and analyze passages from the Agamemnon, Choephoroi, Eumenides
